SUMMER SWIMMING 2024

The Super Sharks team representing at the Regionals Meet 2023

The 2024 summer swimming season is underway for Vancouver & District!

How is summer swimming different from fall/winter maintenance? Training ramps up, including dryland fitness at the end of May through end of July. The Super Sharks start competing in swim meets with other BCSSA clubs in our region (Vancouver & District), as well as outside of our region if we choose. This is an exciting time for the entire club—there’s a noticeable shift in energy and effort by all.

The swim meets our Club is attending in 2024 are:

  • Squamish Pirates at Brennan Park, Squamish - May 25-26

  • Burnaby Barracudas at Central Park Pool - June 8 (1 day only)

  • North Shore Winter Club Marlins at NSWC - June 22-23

  • Cruisers & Super Sharks Hootenany at Watermania - July 6-7

  • Vancouver Vikings at Watermania - July 13-14

  • Coquitlam Sharks at location TBC - July 21 (1 day only)

  • Regionals at North Shore Winter Club - Aug 3-4

  • Provincials in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island - Aug 16-18

We understand families have summer plans and won’t be able to attend every meet. However, it’s to your swimmer and the Club’s benefit to attend as many as possible, even if it’s only for one day of the swim meet.

Despite competing in mostly individual events, we attend the meets as a cohesive team and the swimmers bond, forming friendships for life.

The swimmers also experience the reward of all their efforts during the fall/winter season, as well as the more intensive training that we start in May. This season is about achieving personal bests and being in the moment.

About Each Swim Meet

The Club name on each meet designates the host club who runs it entirely with parent volunteers. Each meet has its own style depending on the size, location, and how it’s run, so if you’re new to summer swimming be sure to try a few different meets. Feel free to ask other parents about their experiences at the meets.

We break down what to bring and to expect during the day on the Swim Meets web pages.

Related Events

We’re running the Swim-a-thon fundraiser on June 9 as a lead-in to the summer season. It tests endurance and is an important fundraiser to help pay for Super Sharks social events and meet supplies.

In July, as is tradition with many BCSSA swim clubs, the coaches run Hell Week which is a blend of fun social events, team building, and extra hard work both in and out of the pool (dryland training). Once we announce the Hell Week dates, be sure to keep that week free for your swimmer as the coaches will plan a range of activities, trips, and a team dinner. The week culminates in a role reversal where the swimmers get to pie the coaches!

If you ask any of the more senior swimmers and coaches, they’ll tell you that their favourite part of swim club is the summer experience.
