RECAP: SHARKS IN THE PARK

By Coach Avery

In mid-July we attended one day of the Coquitlam Sharks in the Park swim meet. This was our last meet before regionals and was a great opportunity to practice the heats and finals format! The outdoor pool at Eagle Ridge in Coquitlam also offered an opportunity to practice in that environment as regionals this year will be held outdoors.

We had 24 swimmers attend the one day of this meet, including 6 coaches. Unfortunately, many swimmers were unable to attend at the last minute, so it was a smaller group than anticipated, but we still had a great time. Six swimmers made finals and 13 swimmers improved on their performances by getting best times! Rachel Woolley dropped 12.58 seconds in her 50 m backstroke – congratulations Rachel!

The many bell races were a fun touch and a couple of highlights was seeing Coquitlam Sharks swimming in jeans and their senior boys in graduation cap and gown!

We’re looking forward to Regionals next week at NSWC!
